Ewa Skucha-R.D.H
Ewa, (pronounced like "Eva") was born in Poland. She graduated from U.C.S.F with a BS in Dental Hygiene. She joined his staff in November 1999. "The preventive dentistry and nice atmosphere is what attracted me to this office", Ewa says. " Dr. Shimizu is an excellent dentist trying to continue his education through newest seminars.He is quite easy going and appreciative of his staff, and it is nice to work for someone like that." Ewa's coworkers describe her as family oriented, open minded, and very thorough with her hygiene work. When Ewa is not in the office she enjoys playing volleyball and studying nutrition.

Maryam Ahmadi-R.D.H.B.S
Maryam is a 1993 graduate of USC School of Dentistry. Following graduation Maryam continued her education. She completed Advanced Hygiene Concepts in 1996 and was certified by the State of California Laser Institute for soft tissue in February of 2000. She started working for Dr. Shimizu shortly after graduation in 1994.

What attracted Maryam to Dr. Shimizu's office was practicing hygiene in an office with the highest amount of patient care. All of us at Dr. Shimizu's office are very skilled at detecting periodontal disease (gum disease) from its first signs or isolated areas of the gingiva (gums), with the state of the art equipment such as soft tissue treatment with laser and microultrasonics. Her goal for each of her patients are educating them with good communiction skills. Her philosophy and enthusiasm to work as a team with other staff members while delivering the best care possible. While Maryam is not at work she enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband.

Lailani Nisperos Avalos, R.D.A., Financial Coordinator & Office Manager
Lailani graduated with honors from Bryman College in 1998. She started working for Dr. Shimizu soon after she graduated. Lailani started her position as a registered dental assistant but through all of her hard work and effort she quickly became a financial coordinator. Lailani is very friendly and has a reputation for building great rapport with patients making sure everyone is satisfied. Her coworkers describe her as not only being a good friend but as an ambitious person who always has a smile. She enjoys her work and looks forward to the many years ahead working with Dr. Shimizu. When Lailani is not hard at work she enjoys spending time with her husband Miguel and her children, Dominique, Rae-Rae, Michael, and Mikaela. Lailani has become a role model for her two younger sisters and younger brother.

Lorna Murphy, Dental Assistant
Lorna originally graduated from Maryland University with a degree in Business Management in 1994, but found her niche in Dental Assisting. Lorna joined Dr. Shimizu’s staff in 2004 and loves that the office is very modern, with all the latest and greatest equipment. She excels at making natural-looking temporary crowns, doing the Britesmile, and understands all facets of cosmetic dentistry. Lorna loves to sing, dance, travel, and read with her two kids.

Crystal C. Laufasa, RDA/Scheduling &
Insurance Coordinator
Crystal has been in the field of dentistry since 1990. She graduated with high honors from Bryman College in 1999.

She soon after received her state license to become a Registered Dental Assistant. She has worked many years in the back office as a Registered Dental Assistant, but decided she wanted to utilize her skills in the front office. Crystal has been a part of this office since July of 2006 and loves being part of this excellent dental family. She uses her outgoing personality and her people skills to build relationships with patients. She looks forward to working many years ahead with Dr. Shimizu and her wonderful fellow staff members. When Crystal is not hard at work, she values her time with her family and friends. She also has a passion for cooking and reading.

Mhary Dela Rosa, Dental Assistant
Mhary has been in the dental field for 6 years now.  She attended Dental Assistant Training School in 2001.  She became a Registered Dental Assistant in 2007.  Mhary has been part of this dental family since February 2006 and looks forward to working many more years with Dr. Shimizu and her fabulous dental team.  She loves that she is part of an excellent and supportive team that is very high tech and involved in the latest technology.  When Mhary  is not at busy at work, she is devoting her time to her husband and son.  She also enjoys singing karaoke at family parties.
